Experience of use of advanced communication systems and distance learning to support teaching at Politecnico di Torino (pp. 159-163)

Nowadays the possibilities for teaching and education are offered by the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) and e-learning systems. The implementation of these systems offers also new insight into subjects that are not possible with traditional methods. Also, it will improve, supplement and aid traditional teaching methods and will also enable the beginning of different teaching and learning processes that are less limited in space and time. It is presented the use of high technology communication systems at Politecnico di Torino, implemented with the purpose of improved university education. Also, the multidisciplinary working systems, communication models, multimedia and video production, videoconferencing systems and special services for disabled, are briefly described. The Centre for e-learning and multimedia (CeLM) at Politecnico di Torino aims to be the institutional reference for the coordination of support activities in the area of technology and multimedia training. The Centre puts the particular emphasis on skills in e-learning and open and distance learning and on the activities related to the release and testing of multimedia technologies.

Automatic identification based on 2D barcodes (pp. 151-157)

Identification of products by using barcodes has been researched for decades and is broadely applied in practice. Today there is almost no consumer product without a barcode. With the introduction of 2D barcodes (2D codes), the capacity to encode data has dramatically increased, and consequently the possibility of storing more data in the code itself. Greater capacity for storing data in a 2D code opens new possibilities, such as transfer of basic information about a product, like the instructions for use, method of transportation, etc., without the need for pairing data from the barcode with a database where further informations are stored, as is the case with the conventional linear barcodes. On the other hand, the recognition of 2D codes is more hardware and software demanding. In this paper, the most common types of 2D barcodes are described, and it is specified how these codes are encoded and decoded, what is their data capacity and posibility of application. Furthermore, an application for automatic identification based on 2D barcodes is realized in Matlab, which uses an IP camera for image acquisition, processes it and reads the available barcode, and reproduces the read text through generated speech.

The main idea of this paper is researching Global Investment possibilities and creating strategies for Investments in the Industry Field. As a proposal for the recovery from the recession there should be made strategies for the Emerging countries, which are very attractive for investments. Since the optimal capital allocation means investment with the highest income and the minimal risk, there should be chosen markets which are often not in the country of the investors but give positive investment results. Because of that, one of the most recommendable investment solutions in the Industry field on the Global market is foreign direct investment in the Emerging Countries. Beside the fact the investors have good subventions and other market conditions, at the same time that is important for Global Economy and Financial market as well. Investments on the Global Market include a large number of possibilities for choosing the optimal investment solution, since there are also investment possibilities on the Emerging Markets and new industrial fields. The main Problem of the Researching which will be presented in this paper is a need for Investments in Industry field in the period of Global Economic Crisis. Besides analysing Foreign direct investments in Emerging Markets, in this Paper there will be given some Investment proposals for Investing in Serbia, as an Emerging country which follows Global investment trends.

Automatic Verification of Inheritance (pp. 139-143)

Implementation of inheritance in programming languages as they are does not impose any restrictions regarding the relation between the superclass and its subclass. This means that in principle it is almost possible to derive any class from any other. On the other hand, from the theoretical point of view the inheritance models a specialization relationship, meaning that logically the subclass must be a specialization of the superclass. Breaking this rule causes serious problems especially with polymorphic replacement. This fact is a motivation to introduce the concept of correct inheritance and to establish the appropriate conditions that must be satisfied by the subclass. In the present paper, we discuss such formal conditions and develop a formal recursive algorithm for automatic verification of inheritance. The solution is based solely on the first-order predicate logic.

Comparison Between Different Humanoid Leg Hip Kinematics Trough Dynamic Simulation (pp. 131-137)

A lot of existing humanoid robots have classical orthogonal leg joint kinematics where all pitch, roll and yaw joints are respectively along longitudinal, lateral and vertical axes of the robot’s body. This paper investigates the influence of different rotary joint axis inclination at the hip joints on power distribution and torque versus angular speed for double support motions. The movements under study here are knees flexion/extension, swaying hips move and forward/backward pelvis motion. They are simulated using a dynamic simulator. This study can help to design better motor arrangement and therefore better power distribution.
