Role of Drought Early Warning and Social Planning in Industrial Growth (pp. 45-51)

This paper presents challenges on industrial growth planning. A component of population change is dynamic in time and space, and has more dynamic components such as psychological, human preparedness, education level, and the most important one, which is the percentage of the population that is most vulnerable. Population change can influence growth due to the lack of trained and educated personnel, a rise of pressure on industrial sectors and variation in wages. The reason for this lies in the dependence relationship between the percentage of the working population and the other aspects of society such as the percentage of most vulnerable within the population and issues like population change. Industrial growth planning also depends on environmental issues and available resources. Climate change and climate extremes influence the availability of resources, especially water in case of drought. In all times the most important resource of all is water which has to be spread between different sectors and users wisely. Industrial development relies on good planning and proper management of all resources, natural and human.

Gender Differences in Expressing the Job Satisfaction Among Scientists (pp. 39-44)

On a sample of 400 respondents, consisting of scientists working at the University of Novi Sad, a study was conducted by means of an on-line questionnaire based on the theoretical concepts of Herzberg’s two-factor theory of motivation, with the aim of testing the attitude of scientists towards their job satisfaction. The starting point in the study is the expectation that there is a significant correlation between the human capital features and job satisfaction at the institutions of higher education of the University of Novi Sad. Job satisfaction of researches has been measured with regard to the gender of respondents. The method used to demonstrate the differences in attitudes of scientists in job satisfaction with regard to their gender was method of variance analysis. According to the study, when considering gender and job satisfaction according to gender, the results indicate that men demonstrate a higher degree of job satisfaction compared to women. The male respondents surveyed are more satisfied with their job than their female colleagues, in terms of advancement, amount of salary and overall appreciation of them as professionals. Female scientists are of the opinion that they are not adequately rewarded for the tasks they perform. Additionally, they are dissatisfied with the conditions in respect of the personal promotion and professional advancement at the faculty. They do not consider being good at one’s job a necessary prerequisite for promotion. This study has substantiated the results indicating that there are more male than female PhD title holders. Due to a range of obligations ahead of women (such as marriage, family, children), they find it more difficult to harmonise their personal and professional life.

Deindustrialization: Why Would Anyone It Is a Myth (pp. 29-38)

In this paper work we assemble the mosaic: we started with deindustrialization in the (negative) perspective of employment dynamics. We contextualized it here with indications of divergence between productivity and employment; it turned out that the productivity dynamics was not synchronized with the wage trends i.e. that the productivity is tied to significant asymmetry of distribution of productivity results. Deindustrialization occurs nowhere else but in this context; namely, in groups of different tendencies or, if we use our methodological projection, deindustrialization may be placed in the context of cumulative causal chains. Talking about deindustrialization without contextualizing shall not give us deeper explanations. Therefore, this is data that is worthy of full attention and do not allow us to get rid of the burden of speaking about deindustrialization too quickly. So, if we sum up everything said in this section, we may say and be able to see later as well, that there are certain differences, but globally speaking, there is no deindustrialization as a one-line process in terms of absolute drop in industrial employment.

The Paradigm Shift? - Rosia Montana between Industrialization and Post-Industrialization (pp. 23-28)

The paper will try to argue that the Roşia Montană protest phenomenon in Romania is significant for two main reasons. First, that this protest movement may have changed the nature of civic involvement in post-Communist Romania, especially with reference to the levels of participation and the new participatory environments. Second, that the Roşia Montană civic phenomenon may have also contributed, directly or not, to the changing of the paradigm of thinking economic processes in post-communist Romania, from a developmental approach to a post-industrial approach.

The Role of E-Procurement in the Austrian Construction Industry: Adoption Rate, Benefits and Barriers (pp. 13-21)

The progressive developments force suppliers on efficiency-driven construction markets to reorganize their internal organization. Especially the complex and not standardized procurement process holds high cost reduction potential. To exploit this potential, suppliers need to understand the purchasing routines of their buyers. Hence, a rising number of supplying firms consider e-procurement solutions to foster and to optimize the direct link to their buyers. The central question of this contribution concerns the role of e-procurement in procurement processes of industrial buyers and reports the results of a respective survey study among 100 construction firms in Austria. The survey study focuses on the adoption rate of e-procurement solutions as well as the used functions and software solutions. Furthermore, benefits and barriers of buyers in the construction industry for using e-procurement systems are highlighted. The findings show that e-procurement is not frequently adopted in the construction industry and that the potential for cost reduction is not exploited to the full.
